Making New Friends at Hedo II

Hedo II in Jamaica is one of our absolute favorite resorts to visit. The carefree atmosphere, the beautiful beaches, and the vibrant, open-minded community make every trip unforgettable. Whether it's the playful theme nights, the incredible entertainment, or just relaxing in the sun with a drink in hand, every moment feels like an escape from reality. We’ve made so many wonderful memories there, from hilarious dinners with the sexy hibachi chef to naked catamaran rides exploring the stunning Negril coast. It’s a place where we can truly be ourselves, and we always look forward to going back.

It was our second visit to Hedo when we met our dear friend Pat from Canada. She was there with a couple and was what people in the swinger lifestyle call a "unicorn" – that elusive, single woman who seems to magically appear and make everything more interesting. We had chatted with her a few times during our stay, and she struck us as a sweet and adventurous young lady, with just the right dash of mischief. You could tell she was up for an adventure, but still smart enough to know when to hold back—most of the time, at least.

On the second day, Pat met a local businessman who was the captain of a tourist boat. Now, this guy didn’t just drive any old boat—he practically *lived* on the sea, steering around tourists like he was Jamaica’s answer to Captain Jack Sparrow. But this wasn’t some sunburned pirate; he was smooth, and he *really* took a liking to Pat. He invited her on a boat trip and said he’d pick her up at noon the next day, like it was the most normal thing in the world to say to someone you just met.

Pat came to us, hesitant and unsure. She said, "What do you think? Should I go?" And I remember thinking, *Girl, this is Jamaica. Do you really want to go sailing off with a guy you just met?* I told her, "I wouldn’t do it. You don’t know him from Adam, and this is how Dateline episodes start!" But the captain wasn’t giving up that easily. He sweetened the deal by offering to pick her up in his *Lamborghini* if a boat ride wasn’t her style. I mean, a boat or a Lambo—it sounded like she was one coconut shy of being a Bond girl.

Still, I stuck to my advice. "I’m not telling you what to do, but personally, I wouldn’t even *think* about hopping into a Lamborghini with a guy who might not even have his own Netflix account."

The next day, we were by the pool when, sure enough, Captain Smooth shows up with his boat, full of tourists, casually pulling up to the dock like it’s a perfectly normal thing to swing by for a lunch date. But guess what? Pat was nowhere to be found! Turns out she’d taken my advice after all. Well, as it happened, Captain Smooth was actually a decent guy—who knew? He was a regular at Hedo, loved by all, and had a soft spot for Pat. But, you know how life goes. When you’re a single mom living in another country with two little kids, sometimes the idea of a cross-continental romance just doesn’t float. The fling was short but sweet, and Captain Jack, I mean, Captain Smooth, sailed off into the sunset.

But Pat’s adventure wasn’t over just yet. On her way to the airport, her taxi got into an accident! We were already at the airport, delayed by a typical "your flight is basically tomorrow now" situation, when she called us. Naturally, we dropped everything to go find her. She was a bit shaken, but no major injuries, thank goodness. When she saw us, she was all smiles—half from relief, half from the sheer disbelief that we were there.

Since that day, Pat has become one of our dearest friends. She’s visited us with her fiancé a few times, and we’ve even gone to see them in Toronto. That’s the magic of Hedo and places like it. Sure, you come for the sun and the optional clothing, but you stay for the friendships that last a lifetime. And, let’s be honest, the wild stories you get to tell over cocktails for years to come!
